finished the album that i started on several months ago and had the guest stars such as chaka khan. stevie wonder and tito puente, alexander. >> that's terrific. and you began. louis armstrong had you as a drummer for his band. >> i was a drummer for louis when i was 16 years old. >> how did the microphone become such a part of your life. >> i was playing with a helper that did auditions when louis came from new york to los angeles california to play in a place called sebastians nightclub. i think sebastians nightclub. and so louis likes the band so well, the name of the band was called -- we took them to the studio to record with him. so when we got to the studio there were a set of sets on the corner. louis asked me about the instrument. i said it's a new instrument being introduced into the music field. he said do you know anything about it. as a teenager i was playing in a newspaper boys band. in chicago, i was playing in the orchestra symphony orchestra and i played the xylophone. >> you just picked it up and turned it into a jazz instrument. and a marching band instrument and you tur
